The advice Leonardo DiCaprio gave Austin Butler on working with Baz Luhrmann

When Austin Butler was preparing for his role as Elvis Presley in Elvis (out today), he was fortunate to receive some insight from Leonardo DiCaprio

He first gained fame as Romeo in Luhrmann's 1996 Romeo + Juliet, and then again as Gatsby in Luhrmann's 2013 The Great Gatsby

Butler knew there was no one better to ask about what to expect before embarking

On Luhrmann's first feature since Gatsby than DiCaprio, while he was working with Tarantino on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

"Leo told me 'Baz is going to continually throw you off, and it's going to bring out things within you that you didn't even know you had," Butler tells Entertainment Weekly

I realized he would push me beyond what I was capable of.

It was almost like catching lightning in a bottle you couldn't just do the thing you had prepared

With DiCaprio, Luhrmann already proved he could turn a blonde heartthrob into a movie star, so he should do it again with Butler
