Shakira In Tax Fraud Case

In her anticipated tax fraud trial, Spanish prosecutors said they will ask a court to sentence Colombian pop star Shakira to eight years and two months in prison

She is accused of not paying the Spanish government 14.5 million euros ($15 million) in taxes between 2012 and 2014

A fine of 24 million euros ($24 million) would also be sought by the prosecutors

Shakira is charged with six counts in the indictment

Despite prosecutors' offer of a settlement, the singer chose to go to trial instead

It has not yet been determined when the trial will take place

As an individual and a taxpayer, Shakira "has shown impeccable conduct as an individual and a taxpayer," her publicists in London said in a statement
