Serena Williams was using KT Tape on her face at Wimbledon

Tennis star Serena Williams returned to a Grand Slam on Tuesday, but she looked a little different at the All England Club

In the opening round of Wimbledon, Williams played her first singles match in a year, against No. 115 Harmony Tan

While the powerful tennis looked familiar, Williams committed too many unforced errors and appeared tired as the match continued

Williams and Tan battled back and forth for three hours and 11 minutes during an instant classic that ultimately came down to a third-set tiebreak that Tan won, 10-7

Williams created a small buzz during the match by wearing black "stickers" on her face

KT Tape, also known as Kinesiotape or kinesiology tape, is actually the stickers Williams uses to treat her sinuses, according to the UK Times

Her goal is to prevent pain and ease pressure in the area around her nose with the tape

Playing tennis or pretty much anything every day is not easy when you have sinuses. You feel a lot of pressure, congestion, and pain, and training for Grand Slams is not easy
