NFL fines Ron Rivera $100K docks Washington Commanders two 2023 OTA practices

NFL fined Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera $100,000 and stripped the team of two OTA practices in 2023 for excessive contact

After reviewing practice video on June 1 and 8, the NFL Players Association informed the NFL Management Council

The practices violated the "prohibition against live contact" in the collective bargaining agreement

Martin Mayhew, Washington general manager, was informed about the penalties by letter from the NFL

In the letter, it was stated that "there's no doubt" that a team does this in order to gain an advantage over their rivals

Commanders declined comment after finishing spring workouts on Thursday

The letter states that the club's interior line play and pass coverage during 11-on-11 drills

Led to players making excessive contact with each other, which resulted in them falling to the ground on more than one play
