Melanie Lynskey Clarifies Experience Of Body Shaming
The New Zealand-born actress discussed her career aspirations with co-stars Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, and Christina Ricci in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter
Melanie revealed "starving" herself during the making of Coyote Ugly, and the costume designer gave her "intense feedback" regarding her physicality.
Her comments referred to the first costume designer who worked on Coyote Ugly, not Marlene Stewart, the 45-year-old explained on Twitter.
"The costume designer initially hired for Coyote Ugly left for some reason & a lovely, kind woman named Marlene Stewart took over," she wrote.
I am careful not to publicly shame people when I talk about a bad experience I've had. I will discuss my experience without naming those who were responsible," she said.
She said she was "as thin as (she) could possibly be" for her body shape, but it was not enough.
During wardrobe fittings, people put a lot of Spanx on me, and were disappointed when they saw me. The costume designer said, "Nobody told me there would be girls like you."
