Geico Ordered To Pay $5.2M To Woman Who Got HPV In A Car

June is barely a week old and weird car sex stories are already dominating the headlines

An appeals court in Missouri ordered insurance giant Geico to pay a woman $5.2 million in damages

After she contracted HPV during intimate activities in an insured car

The case comes out of left field (which is near Kansas City, apparently) following a ruling by the Missouri Court of Appeals

According to The Kansas City Star, the woman filed a claim with Geico in February 2021

After learning that she contracted the infection from a partner who knew but did not disclose his status

As the incident in question took place in her partner's car, she argued that his liability insurance would cover the damages

A settlement was reportedly offered to Geico, but their lawyers declined.

Anyone who has had a legal dispute with an insurance company can probably guess that the case ended up in arbitration

Geico's legal team was undoubtedly surprised by the outcome of the arbitration

Despite Geico's requests for a new hearing, the arbitrator found the woman's partner liable and awarded her $5.2 million in damages

The insurance company appealed several grounds to the courts

Claiming that the legal process denied it the opportunity to appear in court

All the appeals were denied

In this case, it is an insurance company who feels that way, if you've ever walked away from arbitration feeling that it was lacking something
