Apple unveils new healthcare strategy

Apple released a report Wednesday that describes a two-pronged strategy in the digital health markets

Consumers with health and fitness features on one side and collaboration with traditional health systems on the othe

The report, led by Apple chief operating officer Jeff Williams, is the first time Apple has offered a comprehensive overview

Of its approach to the medical device markets in eight years since its founding

It also began collaborating with institutions such as Stanford University School of Medicine to conduct large-scale formal medical studies

Much of the work centers on the Apple Watch, a device that Williams played a key role in bringing to market and has sensors for heart health and other features

Apple said in the release that its goal for consumers is to provide a safe place for users to store their health and medical information on iPhones

While using devices like the Apple Watch to alert users and lead them to better health
